What would be a good desktop PC for digital home recording at the number one lowest price?

Needs a good procesor!

I recommend HP, they have a great selection to choose from, good warranty and pricing is about right. You may be able to find cheaper companies to buy from but as far as quality they are really good. I've purchased computers from quit a few different companies, and I've found them to be my favorite. I also build computers but now it is cheaper to buy one preconfigured then to build. The only reason to build now is for gaming, where systems are designed around a certain type of game.

    -512 MB of RAM (although 1GB is recommended)
    -high quality sound card

    Dells and Sony VAIOs have the worst track record for handling huge digital audio files. I would go with either an HP or an IBM.

    The lowest prices you're going to find on a hig quality HP or IBM with these specs will be around $1,000 for a desktop, around $1500 for a notebook.
